This annual scholarship was established by the English Language Learner Support Team of Franklin Pierce School District.
This scholarship is intended to encourage and assist an ELL graduating senior to continue their education. Although the recipient may have attended either GATES, Franklin Pierce or Washington High School, there will be only one scholarship district-wide.
|Amount||1 scholarship(s) of $500 each. (total annual contribution: $500)|
|Award notes||One time award.|
Each school’s scholarship committee will select a nominee for this scholarship and submit the name to the Foundation. The scholarship committee is strongly encouraged to seek the input of the ELL teachers and staff before making their selection. If more than one high school has a qualified recipient, then the Foundation will make the final selection. An alternate shall be selected annually and the scholarship shall be awarded to that individual if the primary award winner does not meet the requirements of the scholarship.
Special considerations: If more than one high school has a qualified recipient (male or female), then the Foundation will make the final selection. The ELL team will be informed by the school or the Foundation of the name of the recipient and when and where the awards presentation will take place.
About the English Language Learner Program
Franklin Pierce School District is privileged to encompass a growing number of English Language Learners that walk our halls and bring a rich diversity to the classroom.
These students face challenges each day as they are learning English while grasping grade level academic concepts. This educational challenge is coupled with adapting to a new home and new culture. Many families have immigrated to our country seeking quality educational opportunities for their children as they share our belief of education as the key to a better life. Many of our students are first generation high school graduates.
The success and determination that the English Language Learner exhibits is an inspiration to staff and peers alike. The service they will contribute to the community is invaluable.
