This scholarship is funded annually by members of the Washington High School Whanau Poly Club and their supporters.

Purpose

The scholarship will be awarded to a graduating member of the Whanau Poly Club at Washington High School.

Selection criteria
  • A nominee must be a graduating senior from Washington High School with a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
  • A nominee must have been active in the Whanau Poly Club
    • Members who have been active for 4+ years will be given preference.
    • Must have perfect, or near perfect, attendance at meetings.
    • Must have participated in hosted events/fundraising.
    • Must have attended volunteer opportunities.
    • Must complete a short essay on the topic: “How I will show leadership in my community.”
  • A nominee must have completed the Washington High School Scholarship Notebook.
  • The recipient may attend a college, university, vocational, technical school, or certificated program.
Selection process

Based on the criteria, the advisors of the Whanau Poly Club will nominate members to be considered for the scholarship. They will send the names of those nominated and a copy of their essays to the Washington Scholarship Committee. That committee will then select the recipient and an alternate.

About

Whanau Poly Club is one of the largest and most influential student clubs at Washington High School. Their Mission is to empower and engage Asian Pacific Islander youth within a western educational paradigm (public schools) through a cultural lens by using cultural dialogue and engagement strategies. The club continues to see the increasing number of students that attend every year, and would like to continue to provide that safe place and educational environment for them. To take the next step in helping their current and future students achieve goals, they have been given an opportunity create a scholarship with donations and funds provided by school staff members and friends.

Administration of the fundThe fund is administered by the Franklin Pierce Foundation, a nonprofit corporation registered in the State of Washington.
Method of payment
  • Receipt of a completed Scholarship Acceptance Form will hold this scholarship for the student. The scholarship can be held no longer than 16 months after June 30th of the year of graduation from high school.
  • Upon receipt of Proof of Enrollment Form including a student ID number, funds will be released to the institution in the name of the student.
